Hilo Surfboard Company is always looking for qualified, enthusiastic, focused, team riders. The HSC team is growing and the representation is solid. This year should be more fun than ever with our tent at the contests and a few team surf days in the works.

To be a Hilo Surfboard Team Rider.. here are some considerations.

What is sponsorship and what IS being a team rider? Many mistakenly think that to be sponsored is to "get free stuff". Or that because you rip, or think  you rip that the business should give you discounted or free boards and gear.

WRONG!  Nothing is further from the truth. Sponsorship is a 'business' relationship. Companies expect to see a measurable and tangible return on the investment. Consider this, it's like a job.  You go to work, perform your duties and then you get your paycheck. In the surf industry we 'pay' you first and hope for results.

To be a team rider is to Represent the shop and the other companies with whom the shop is associated. The success of the shop is, in part DIRECTLY related to your involvement and support. For example I have been sponsoring Koa Enriquez for over eight  years. Long before Hilo Surfboard Co opened. Koa, his father Lloyd, and the entire family have always supported the shop. Often the phone will ring and Lloyd will let me know that he is sending some guys down to the shop to buy boards. Or the Surfco add that appeared on both Surfer and Transworld with Koa wearing an HSC shirt. Within three weeks of Topo Kalimai becoming a team rider three guys came in a bought new TK boards. These are what we refer to as tangible results of the sponsorship investment.

Hilo Surfboard Company has several levels of sponsorship ranging from entry level to A Team. Also known as snot grom to rock star. 

Entry level team riders may qualify for some flow product and shop discounts. Moving up the ranks riders may earn photo and contest incentives.

As your sponsor Hilo Surfboard Company will work to help you build relationships with other surf companies and aid in advancement of your surfing goals.

OK.. so what's next?  Now that you know a little more about "Team" and sponsorship, what do YOU need to do to 'apply' for the 'job'.

Come to the shop prepared. Bring the following... resume, photos, & DVD. Make a positive impression.  Think of it this way. You need to show the potential sponsor what YOU can do for them. It's probably not a good idea to show up with no shirt. wet hair, sand on your feet (which will end up on my carpet), walk in and say, "Dude you should sponsor me" or "I wanna be on your team Dooode".
